What Is a Stablecoin?

Why you should know this

Stablecoins can appear in transfers, trading and savings claims. Understanding the peg and redemption path comes before using them.

A token with a price reference

A stablecoin is a crypto token designed to track a reference value, often a national currency such as the US dollar.

Some issuers hold reserve assets and offer redemption under stated terms. Other designs use crypto collateral or automated mechanisms. The design determines the risks.

Stability is a goal, not a guarantee

A stablecoin can trade away from its reference. Confidence, reserve quality, redemption access, market liquidity, technology and regulation can all affect the peg.

A token that targets one US dollar also creates currency exposure for someone measuring wealth in Philippine pesos or Japanese yen.

A familiar example

Maria sends a dollar-referenced stablecoin when the PHP value of one dollar changes. Even if the token stays near one dollar, the final peso amount can still move.

One limit to remember

Before use, examine the issuer or mechanism, reserve information, redemption terms, supported network and receiving route. A familiar ticker is not enough.

How this connects to market mastery

Later remittance and market lessons measure peg risk, FX risk, liquidity, fees and counterparty exposure separately.
