Crypto Awareness Triples Among Filipinos

In 2025, awareness of cryptocurrencies among Filipinos jumped to 20%, up from just 6% in 2021. Crypto, what was once a niche topic discussed in online forums, has now entered everyday conversations.

Smartphones and Internet Access Speeds Up Adoption of Crypto

The rise is driven by several factors. Smartphones and internet access are nearly universal, making it easier for Filipinos to encounter crypto content. Social media has amplified the buzz. Local platforms such as Coins.ph and Maya have also introduced crypto features, lowering the barrier for first‑time users.

Filipinos Still Remain Cautious of Crypto

But awareness doesn’t mean adoption. While one in five Filipinos now knows about crypto, surveys show that just two in ten adults reported any form of investment in 2025. Many remain cautious, worried about volatility, scams, and the complexity of managing digital assets.

Older Generations Remain Skeptical of Crypto

Generational differences are clear. Younger Filipinos, especially those aged 18–34, are leading the charge, seeing crypto as an alternative to traditional savings. Older generations remain skeptical, shaped by memories of financial scams and a preference for more familiar banking tools.

Philippines Emerges Among Leaders in Crypto Awareness

Globally, the Philippines is emerging as a leader. In 2025, the country ranked 9th worldwide in crypto adoption, is ahead of many developed markets. Projections suggest 12.8 million Filipino crypto users by 2026, driven by mobile‑first wallets and remittance corridors. But looking at the bigger picture, this is a noticeable drop after peaking at number 2 in 2022.

Crypto awareness has gone mainstream, but the real test lies ahead. Will Filipinos treat crypto as a speculative bet, or as a practical tool for remittances, savings, and inclusion? The answer will depend on trust, literacy, and regulation. If those pieces fall into place, crypto won’t just be another buzzword. It could become a pillar of the Philippine digital economy.
