PH Economic Zone Investment Surged More Than 300%

Investment in key economic zones in the Philippines surged by 334%, according to Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), which is a 4x increase in August to 64.5 billion pesos compared to the previous year. This closes the gap in the target goal of 300 billion pesos in investment by the end of 2026—with four months remaining.

This signals confidence in the Philippine economy, especially in high-growth areas such as manufacturing (80 projects), ecozone development (31 projects), facilities (19 projects) and logistics ventures (15 projects). Most of the 64.5 billion pesos are driven by nine projects totaling 62 billion pesos; and the jobs expected from these projects will generate almost 27,000 new workers, and increase exports by 6.6 billion dollars, from research published by PEZA.

This will boost productivity in the economy and contribute to the Philippines’ centrality as a key global player in both the ASEAN region and beyond. More projects in growth areas like manufacturing will shift the once predominantly agrarian country into a more equipped, more diversified nation; moreover, investments poured in from foreign investments will bolster intercountry relationships, fostering meaningful partnerships alongside the growth.

The Big-Ticket Projects: 200 billion pesos and counting in 2026

Capital poured into these projects total 216 billion pesos so far in 2026. With this comes the expectation of developing industries: mainly, facilities enterprises; semiconductor manufacturing; and export-oriented hubs located in Tarlac and Laguna.

What PEZA Covers: Industry to Industry

PEZA covers a multitude of industries, ranging from Information Technology parks to Logistics; from Tourism to Export Manufacturing. In total, there are ten categories ripe for investment. To qualify for investment, entities must submit proposal bids then secure investment from local and foreign entities. They must also adhere to the stipulations of the categorization of industry. Export Manufacturing, for one, is defined by PEZA as “manufacturing, assembly or processing activity resulting in the exportation of at least 70% of production; [the process in which] raw or semi-finished materials are converted into a new product”.

PEZA, therefore, is an investment incubator that attracts key development across growth areas, and across geographic regions. The spread of the projects is mainly focused in Luzon. However, with PEZA’s push to decentralize the economy, there are also ‘big-ticket’ projects in Visayas and Mindanao (35 projects).

PH Investor Confidence is Boosted

The 334% increase in investment is a direct reflection of investor confidence in the Philippine economy’s growth potential. While a portion of the investment in local, outside the country, most of the foreign capital is poured in from the Netherlands, South Korea, Singapore and Taiwan. These countries will have therefore become strategic partners in the push towards meaningful, with actual economic development that benefits both sides. There are jobs created; capital inflow to the economy; growth of productivity; and yield of exports, manufacturing, and other areas.

PH Centrality: More Industries Develop, More Prominence in the Global Stage

This poises the Philippine to become a larger player in the economy through centrality. An example taken from another country is Taiwan. It exports most of the world’s semiconductor chips. The hope is, through constant investment and building of industries, that the Philippines becomes a central hub—or at least a key player in multiple hubs—for specific industries.

Currently, a vast majority of the Philippine economy is anchored on agriculture. We are a predominantly agricultural country. Reforms and regulations have boosted farming productivity, where its prominence has been recognized by our government. That said, the goal of PEZA is to expand the country’s expertise to cover broader areas beyond agriculture. Again, to become a more flexible and competent country that can confidently stand in the ASEAN and global stage.

To say that PEZA pulls investment out of farming is black-and-white logic. In fact, PEZA also invests heavily in agriculture development. There are billions of pesos poured into the development of agrarian competency—automation, mechanization, and digitalization, among others. However, PEZA’s goal is not to deplete one area in exchange for another, but rather holistically grow—in a blanket way—all high-growth areas. There is no sacrifice: only positive investment. PEZA is not a central authority for legislation; it is, again, an entity for others to pour capital into investment vehicles.
