CoinEx Shutdown Marks End of an Era for Filipino Crypto Users

After nearly nine years in the crypto market, CoinEx is preparing to close its doors, and Filipino users are among those who now need to plan their next move.

CoinEx has announced an orderly shutdown of its cryptocurrency exchange, ending operations on December 22, 2026.

The company said the decision followed prolonged market pressures, shrinking liquidity and trading volumes, and increasing regulatory and compliance costs across multiple jurisdictions.

For users in the Philippines, the shutdown means more than the loss of a familiar trading platform. CoinEx users will need to withdraw their assets, review their holdings, and determine where to move their digital funds before key deadlines take effect.

The closure also comes after CoinEx Charity established a presence in several Philippine communities through projects focused on internet access, digital education, and community support.

While these activities are separate from the exchange trading operations, the shutdown marks a significant change for a company that has been active in the country’s crypto and technology space.

Start of a Three-Month Wind-Down

CoinEx is not closing all services at once. Instead, the company has established a phased schedule that gradually removes trading, deposit, and other financial services before the final shutdown.

The main dates users should remember are:

  • September 15, 2026: New user registrations end. Referral commissions stop, futures trading moves to reduce-only mode, and new subscriptions for fiat trading, margin, crypto loans, Earn, staking, and automated strategy trading are disabled.
  • September 22, 2026: All non-spot trading services are closed. On-chain crypto deposits also end, except for native CET deposits.
  • September 29, 2026: Spot trading halts. Remaining non-USDT assets will be converted into USDT, while CoinEx will repurchase CET at 0.005 USDT per token.
  • December 22, 2026: Platform operations cease entirely, and standard web withdrawals close.

CoinEx has encouraged users to withdraw their assets as early as possible instead of waiting until the final deadline. The company noted that some withdrawals may take longer while funds are transferred between cold and hot wallets.

What Users Need to Know About Their Assets

CoinEx said its reserve ratio exceeds 100%, and that user assets are fully backed and available for withdrawal. The company has presented the shutdown as an orderly wind-down rather than an immediate suspension of customer access.

For users, however, the most important step is to act before the deadlines.

Those who want to withdraw cryptocurrency in its original form should complete the process before September 29, when spot trading ends. After that point, CoinEx will convert remaining non-USDT assets into USDT according to its shutdown procedures.

CET holders have a separate arrangement. CoinEx will repurchase CET at 0.005 USDT per token, with no cap on the quantity that can be repurchased.

Users should also review their accounts and complete any outstanding financial activities before services are disabled. This includes:

  • Closing futures positions.
  • Settling outstanding loans.
  • Redeeming Earn and staking products.
  • Withdrawing available balances.
  • Checking wallet addresses before transferring assets.
  • Keep transaction records for future references.

Taking these steps early can give users additional time to resolve withdrawal problems, network delays, or other technical issues.

The Final Deadline Comes with a Custody Warning

December 22 is the final date for standard withdrawals, making it the most important deadline for users who still have funds on the platform.

CoinEx has stated that any USDT left unwithdrawn after the deadline will be transferred to independent custody. Accounts holding custodial funds will then be charged a 5% monthly custody fee, calculated against the account balance recorded on December 22.

Users who need to recover funds from custody will be able to submit manual recovery claims by email until August 22, 2028.

For Filipino users, waiting until the final days could create unnecessary complications. Moving assets earlier provides more time to check wallet addresses, confirm blockchain networks, resolve failed transactions, and address account-related issues.

The shutdown also extends to CoinEx’s broader blockchain ecosystem. CoinEx Smart Chain (CSC) and OneSwap are scheduled to permanently stop operating on September 29.

Meanwhile, CoinEx has stated that its standalone self-custody products, including CoinEx Wallet and CoinEx Vault, are separate from the exchange infrastructure and will remain operational after the centralized exchange closes.

CoinEx Charity Leaves a Philippine Community Footprint

Although CoinEx’s trading operations are ending, its Philippine outreach has left a visible community footprint.

Through CoinEx Charity’s “Bridge to Hope” initiative, the organization deployed Starlink satellite internet systems to underserved disaster-prone areas. One of its latest projects brought satellite connectivity to Aningway-Sacatihan Elementary and High School in Sitio Gala, Subic, Zambales, along with two printers for the school.

The project aimed to address the lack of reliable mobile and internet connectivity in the remote community and provide students with greater access to online educational resources.

“Thank you to Aningway-Sacatihan Elementary and High School for letting us be part of this transformative initiative. We hope to return with more support, including a mini-library and financial literacy programs for students.”

School officials also highlighted the importance of the new connection.

“Our students will no longer be left behind. They can now explore the world and stay informed through the power of the internet.”

The Subic installation followed earlier deployments in E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental; Laurel, Batangas; and Agoncillo, Batangas. The projects focused on improving connectivity, supporting education, and restoring communication in areas affected by disasters.

CoinEx Charity also participated in activities involving digital literacy, cybercrime awareness, cryptocurrency education, and community events in the Philippines.
